BOOM

a play written by jean tay a singaporean author

the book is the story of how an elderly woman and her property agent son, are struggling over the en block sale of their home, and a civil servant who is trying to find a corpse's family/relative. the language used is not English but singlish as explained in each note at the bottom of each page along with the actual meaning in English. finished in 30min

the story revolves around, Boon's family, and the story takes place during the modernization period of Singapore, probably in the 1960s or 1970s, in order to make space for HDB flats and other stuff, Boon's family entire block was being cleared as long as 80% of the vote supports moving house, en block will occur and they will all receive a huge sum of money enough to get a landed property and leave fairly comfortably, boon is trying to convince his mother to sign the contract but she is unwilling and faces pressure by the neighbours, goverment and son. due to memories of her husband who dissapeared over a long period of time and was not seen again, yet a fig tree planted by her husband caused her to be unwilling to move.

a civil servant named jeremiah ( was picturing jeremiah gottwald from code geass)... was tasked with the job to file a report on a cemetery if the land could be cleared and if the locals was willing. jeremiah was supposedly gifted with a third eye or something like that causing him to be able to speak to corpses, one particular corpse in particular, spoke, the grave being wrongly named, and thus the family could not be contacted and the corpse could not remember the family name only knowing that the one written on the grave was wrong. eventually jeremiah succeeded in refreshing the corpse's memories identifying himself as the father of boon. though he faced some problems with the director about this...  jeremiah identified it as the father remembered that he planted a fig tree.

jeremiah approached the mum and claimed that boon's father is dead, but his mum became enraged and cursed at jeremiah sending him out , because his only evidence is the fig tree, as boon got angry he cut down the fig tree, jeremiah who was talking to the corpse at the same time, the corpse felt pain as he was somehow connected to the fig tree, after boon's mum realised what boon did she threw statues at him but eventually accepted the truth after boon offered to take the tree along... and moved house, and for the corpse it finally ended with the corpse being cremated and turned into ashes...

go get the book

on kazuo ishiguro

since the story, never let me go is in actual fact a fictional book (not real) and the way ishiguro kazuo wrote the story in a recount format by kathy, the start of the story, the way it was narrated by kathy, it seemed almost like a real journal, how she had her feelings described, along with the way the teachers were described, the clones kept in the world of naivety and seclusion, the way clones saw people and their understanding was made so, believing ... tho i'm stilll dissapointed on how all the clones can die before 40, kathy who was 31, accepted her fate and decided to quit being a carer, and become a donor, which would finally die at her fourth donation(usually if the donation was successful). reaching completion.

kazuo ishiguro truely is a good writer, peace off

continuing my previous review of never let me go

hailsham, glenmorgan and the saunders trust , there were actually 3 instituitions like hailsham yet...was never able to succeed due to the moringdale scandal, from a scientist called james moringdale, who was creating a possibility and method for childrens to be genetically modified in the embryo stage to become a child with enhanced intellect, atheletics and personality. similar to the co-ordinators found in the gundam series with co-ordianators are also enhanced human beings, but was originally more popular and well recieved compared to the moringdale scandal...this led to the lack of financial backing by politicians and other wealthy-buisnessman leading to the closing of the 3 institiutions first one being the saunder trust followed by glen morgan and two months later, hailsham followed.
but actually if you think about it, a clone or student as called by the guardians, are still gonna face the same fate, in their life whether hailsham or a normal goverment house clone...perhaps it means that after showing the clone the wonders of this world they are killed in some organ transplant nontheless... the difference would probably only just increase at the very least show that clones have emotions and there would have more fair and better treatment of the clones at the very least but the fate remains the same.

clones are taught in hailsham that tho they can have sex, but are born with perhaps no reproductory organs and thus is impossible to reproduce and give birth to any kids, and even if the three instituitions succeded and rights were installed, the most they could get would be a deferall for those who show love and some major improvements in facilities where they are reared . but the fate of clones will non-theless remain the same and will eventually die from organ transplants. the clones who were able to defer at the most can live a long healthy life, but they would never have a family...

and the reason for this clones are simply because of their sacrifice, their children, family and themselves will not die of cancer, motor neurone diesease or heart diesease, and clearly this great cure perhaps is such a good cure rate nobody can bear apart with thus... the outcome of hailsham closing down was inevitable.

perhaps if one was to explore the idea of flash cloning organs, in halo... dr halesy used this machine to produce cloned organs to replace the spartan-kelly's organs... the organs are presumed to be created by a data bank stored by an A.I and is created by cloning the same data of the spartan's...

never let me go

a book by kazuo ishiguro...

lol rather interesting book which i read in like 4 hours..., its a book about this fictional school at a place called hailsham, where after doing my own Home work it is supposedly at east sussex...

the students are clones created for the only purpose of them to donate vital organs ranging from kidneys, pancreas , lungs ,ect... for humans, which was a supposed mean to provide for the sick people who are lacking organs.

students are not thought any practical skills mostly about them being creative or humanities, such as art drawings or poetry. a woman nicknamed madame by the students often took all the good pieces to display at a supposed gallery as imagined by the kids...

after reaching the age of 16-18... they are sent to a location known as the cottage, a simple laid back place though nothing as luxurious as compared to hailsham..sex and relationships were before quite a mystery to them in their opinion as a weird topic taught back in hailsham...so at the cottage the people exploring that area is increased

though confusing apparently during this period they are given two choices of jobs one being a donator usually males though never specified , but implied due to most mentioned being female... they are sent to many locations to donate organs and finally reaching completion or death at their fourth donation. while a carer is allowed to live for a longer period of time as a nurse to comfort or care for the sick donators after some operations.

as revealed at the end of the  book ,  the main characters discovered that hailsham is a place for a civil experiment for clones to be given some human-rights as previously clones are considered inhumane and simply a source for organs.,,

this can be shown also from different parts of the book like when madame saw kathy singing and dancing to the song never let me go she cried, tho kathy was confused in the beginning, in actual fact she cried because it touched madames heart showing that clones have emotions and feelings.

the gallery where the best pieces were collected was in my opinion simply a place where they showcase the clones work in order to gain enough human-rights activitists or by showing to the public of what clones can accomplish and the emotion shown in each piece of work.

the last essay from hailsham before leaving for the cottage was like a farewell gift...once again showing more emotion.

the fact that clones have feelings simply like how we do, makes it simply an unfair reason for clones to be created and killed in their prime life of 20-39 on average, simply to provide for some unfair reason like how humans mistreat their own organs . smoking causing lungs to die...or turn black. clones shown the ability to show love , care , fear , hate , and many other emotions just like any one of us. They feel pain when injured , do they also not laugh when tickled, do they not smile when with friends, what makes them different other than the way of creation..

enough of my drabble..anyway i recomend you to pick up this book anyway... its a rather touching story
